France v England men’s & women’s Rugby on Saturday, 23 October.

International rugby league will return to BBC television screens with England men’s and women’s teams featuring in a double-header against France. England have named eight uncapped players in an inexperienced side for their autumn international against France on Saturday, 23 October.

Wigan Warriors’ second-row John Bateman is the most capped player with just 16 for the match in Perpignan. The match is being shown on the BBC and is part of a double header with England’s women also playing France.

The two matches, played back-to-back at Perpignan’s Stade Gilbert Brutus on 23 October, will be shown live on BBC One and BBC Two respectively.

Both Tests will be played on the day that the Rugby League World Cup 2021 was due to kick off in Newcastle.

That tournament has been delayed for 12 months because of coronavirus issues.

Craig Richards’ women, who kick off at 12:00 BST, will be playing their first Test match since a 60-0 thrashing of Wales in June this year.

Meanwhile, England’s men – who follow suit at 14:30 – will be playing only their second game under new coach Shaun Wane.

He saw his new charges lose narrowly to the Combined Nations All Stars in June.

Coverage of the women’s game begins on BBC Two at 11:45, while the men’s game will be shown live on BBC One with build up starting at 14:00.

England Rugby Football Union (RFU) have played France Rugby Union (FFR) 92 times (England winning 49 matches to France 36 with 7 drawn matches) with 2001 seeing the most points being scored by England with a 48-19 result. France had their biggest win over England 37-12 in 1972 .

Junior Springboks to face All Blacks in U20 Rugby Championship

The Junior Springboks will kick off the U20 Rugby Championship against All Blacks on Thursday, 2 May at 9am (South Africa time).  The U20 Rugby will see the up-and-coming stars of Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa do battle in a first of its kind between the four southern hemisphere nations.
