1874 CUP

The All Blacks Rugby and the USA Eagles will be playing in the inaugural Test for the 1874 Cup, which celebrates the year rugby was first played in the United States, in a collegiate match between McGill and Harvard Universities. USA Rugby chief executive Ross Young said: “This is a special match for all of us within the USA rugby community, taking on one of the world’s best in our nation’s capital. With the Men’s Eagles having last played on the east coast in 2017, we’re thrilled to welcome eager fans to what is always a special experience facing the All Blacks,” he said.

The match this weekend looks to be the start of a new streak with the mismatch of talent levels. In the last contest between the two nations in November of 2018, the All Blacks were successful with a final score of 59-22. Two years prior at the match in Chicago, the All Blacks beat the Eagles 54-7

“The chance for us to play in a new city and new stadium is pretty special and the group is really excited and looking forward to the occasion,” Foster said. “It’s time to get back into our groove after our break in Australia and with a number of players having not played for a while. It’s time to get our game going again and we are ready to go.”

Centre Bryce Campbell will captain an Eagles team much changed from the one which was beaten 34-15 by Uruguay in a World Cup qualifying match earlier this month. Only five members of that starting 15 remain.

Ireland-born No 10 Luke Carty and halfback Nate Augspurger, who started on the bench against Uruguay, will now combine in the starting lineup.
