Latest Six Nations squad news

Courtney Lawes has resumed full training in time to reinforce the middle phase of England’s title push.

Lawes was unable to play in the opening two rounds of the tournament because of concussion but has now completed his return to play protocols and comes into contention to face Wales.

As well as restoring the 32 year-old to England’s back row, Eddie Jones must decide whether he should resume in the captaincy role he filled during the autumn.

No 8 Sam Simmonds has resumed full training after a hip injury limited his involvement in England’s three-day fallow week camp in Chelsea.

Bath’s Taulupe Faletau has been called up to the Wales squad.

The back-row forward, who will be available for the remainder of the tournament including matches against France and Italy, replaces Exeter Chiefs’ Christ Tshiunza, who was previously released back to his club following a hamstring injury.

Faletau, who won the last of his 86 caps almost a year ago, has only just returned from seven months out with an ankle injury but has proved his fitness with outings against Wasps and Leicester in the Gallagher Premiership.

Wales head coach Wayne Pivac is currently without the likes of Faletau’s fellow British and Irish Lions Alun Wyn Jones, George North, Ken Owens and Justin Tipuric through injuries.

Manu Tuilagi returns to England squad for crunch Wales match

Manu Tuilagi returns to the 35-player England squad for Saturday’s Six Nations match against Wales.

The squad regrouped at the Honda England Rugby Performance Centre at Pennyhill Park in Bagshot this afternoon [Sunday] as they continue preparations for the Wales game, which will be played at Twickenham Stadium on Saturday 26 February (4.45pm KO).

Saturday’s tie with Wales will be England’s first of the Six Nations campaign.

England will need to win their final three matches, starting with Wales at Twickenham on Saturday, to have a chance of claiming the title they have won three times under Eddie Jones and Lions second row Itoje said they were up for it.

“The title is our goal, our mindset,” said Itoje, who started in the back row against Italy in the last round but may return to lock against Wales with Courtney Lawes back in training. “We believe it is still very much in our hands.
