Argentina are again proving the best of the Americas teams on the World Sevens Series as they topped Pool D to qualify for the Quarter Finals in Vancouver. Canada and the USA each finished third in their respective pools with one win from three matches.

Los Pumas were unbeaten on Day One with the only blip on their record a 12-all draw with France in the tournament opener. A Marcos Moneta double saw them skip past Scotland with little trouble, and it was two tries from Germán Schulz that contributed to the win over Ireland to wrap up their day.

The Eagles were frustrated in their first match as Anthony Omondi’s conversion of a last-gasp Bush Mwale try was good enough to give Kenya a 19-17 win. Four players scored for the USA in the one-point win over England though conversions were again difficult to come by. Singapore champions Fiji proved a class apart as they swept Pool A in dominant fashion.

Hosts France dropped their first two matches against Australia and South Africa. A second-half surge saw them nudge ahead of the Blitzboks but Selvyn Davids salvaged the game with a late try. Brock Webster notched the match-winner as the Canucks took a close result over Spain to the delight of the home crowd.
