The Highlanders, dissatisfied with their performance in Australia, fly back to New Zealand to play the Chiefs, who are currently leading the DHL Super Rugby Pacific league, on Friday.
A big opportunity’ for the home team, according to assistant coach Dave Dillon, was presented by the game. I would like to think that we receive the support because the entire region enjoys these games. It’s a derby game, and we proved last time out against the Hurricanes that we were competitive for significant stretches of the game. The availability of more players will boost the selection options for the Highlanders. Wings Jona Nareki and Scott Gregory were back last week, along with captain and flanker Billy Harmon and lock Josh Dickson. We’re at the point when that is turning, so many bodies are returning.
Super Rugby 2023: Chiefs to face Highlanders with aim of a 10th win
This week, the Gallagher Chiefs are in Dunedin to play the Highlanders a second time in the hopes of striking it lucky ten times.
Anton Lienert-Brown, who had an ankle injury in round one of the Super Rugby tournament, returns for the match and will participate in his 100th game for the Chiefs for the Waikato-based squad. Clayton McMillan, the head coach of the Chiefs, praised Lienert-Brown for his accomplishment.
It’s a wonderful accomplishment that is well-deserved. We hope that we can deliver a collective effort worthy of the man and the occasion because Anton sets the bar for our team in terms of work rate, passion, and competitiveness.
McMillan says the opening game of round three against the Highlanders had already been a spirited contest.
We anticipate them to present a strong challenge inside the Dunedin roof. They have our entire respect and attention because they haven’t been far off in their recent performances, and with the potential addition of a few key players, they will be prepared.
Aidan Ross, Samisoni Taukei’aho, and George Dyer are once again in the first row for the Chiefs on Friday.
Lock Josh Lord will have an impact off the bench in addition to Naitoa Ah Kuoi and Tupou Vaa’i in the starting lineup. Pita Along with Sam Cane and Luke Jacobson, Gus Sowakula also makes a move to start in the loose forward position this week.
