The 2023 New Zealand Māori Nga Mreikura Under 18 Girls squad was unveiled by New Zealand Rugby (NZR) today. They will compete in a single match against the New Zealand Barbarians on October 6 at Auckland’s Navigation Homes Stadium.

Players from rugby clubs (8) and schools (9) from all throughout Aotearoa, who were recognized for their outstanding performances this season, make up the 23-member Nga Mreikura side.

Jarvy Aoake of the Bay of Plenty will serve as the organization’s head coach, assisted by Te Rauoriwa Gapper, a current Matat, Stephanie Te-Ohaere Fox, a former Black Fern, and former Black Fern Stephanie Te-Ohaere Fox.

Tiki Edwards, the manager of NZR Mori Rugby Development, congratulated the women chosen for Nga Mreikura.

“For our players, the chance to represent their whanau (family), hap (sub-tribe), and iwi (tribe) is a tremendous honor. I’m excited to watch them truly absorb the culture as they spend the week together on a marae and develop a sense of pride before donning the jersey, Edwards said.

These Maori young players represent the future of our sport, and I want to thank the NZ Barbarians for supplying us with such a strong opponent. We are eager for the challenge this game will present.

Mark Hooper and Jimmy Sinclair will serve as the core coaching staff for the New Zealand Barbarians.

The NZ Barbarians officially announced their core coaching staff, which includes Mark Hooper, Jimmy Sinclair, former Black Fern Kendra Cocksedge, and Scrum Coach Aleisha Nelson. Their whole roster will be revealed at a later time.
