Glasgow Rugby loses out on winning the URC but keeps the 1872 Cup.

Edinburgh and Glasgow Rugby will square off for the 1872 Cup in a match that is expected to surpass attendance records at Murrayfield with over 33,000 spectators. Edinburgh 19–14 Glasgow Warriors: Glasgow loses out on winning the URC but keeps the 1872 Cup.

In front of a record-breaking Murrayfield crowd, Edinburgh exacted revenge on Glasgow, but they were unable to overturn their overall disadvantage as the Warriors went on to win the 1872 Cup.

The visitors took the lead early on through Johnny Matthews, and in a first half that saw momentum swing back and forth for Edinburgh, Matt Currie also scored.

Glasgow took the lead after the break thanks to a superb goal by Stafford McDowall.

But Ben Healy’s boot and Duhan van der Merwe’s breakaway try changed the tide in Edinburgh’s favor.

Despite missing out on valuable URC points, Glasgow emerged victorious in the inter-city trophy, winning 36-29 overall.

Junior Springboks to face All Blacks in U20 Rugby Championship

The Junior Springboks will kick off the U20 Rugby Championship against All Blacks on Thursday, 2 May at 9am (South Africa time).  The U20 Rugby will see the up-and-coming stars of Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa do battle in a first of its kind between the four southern hemisphere nations.
