Rugby Australia issue Statement to Melbourne Rebels

This morning, RA informed the Consortium’s known representatives of the decision, pointing out that the application lacked adequate financial sustainability. The application placed undue reliance on revenue growth and cost savings estimates that, in RA’s opinion, are too optimistic, casting serious doubt on the prospective licensee’s long-term viability. Furthermore, the parties have not yet reached an agreement on the Consortium’s planned partnership with Western Melbourne Group (WMG) for co-location in Tarneit, which is a key component of the suggested strategy. The Consortium has stated clearly that, in addition to the usual cash that would be made available under a Participation Agreement, it is asking RA for a contribution of several million dollars to offset projected operational losses. Since RA has not been informed of the members of the Consortium, it was not possible to evaluate the Consortium’s qualifications in their entirety. Nonetheless, it is evident that a number o

Rugby in New Zealand is overflowing with Talent but it has nowhere to Go

Image
With the proliferation of the Warriors in recent years, rugby league and the NRL’s talent raid on rugby union schools have received a great deal of media attention. The truth is that New Zealand rugby has an abundance of playing skill and a scarcity of funding, despite tales of NRL club scouts attending U15 national rugby competitions in large numbers as part of their recruiting drive. It will benefit both codes if any of those players sign development deals and pursue careers in rugby league. Take into consideration that not a single dollar has been contributed by the union to the professional athlete development of Roosters standout Joseph Manu, who is now on a longer-term road to play for the All Blacks and is presently playing rugby in Japan. Like Sonny Bill Williams, who went to France for his first assignment, rugby in New Zealand may eventually reap benefits from Manu’s move. While Manu was playing rugby league, one of the few slots in a union academy was awarded to another

All Blacks legend Sid Going remembered by team mate as a true Real Hero

Image
One of Sid Going’s teammates called the late man, who passed away on Friday at the age of 80, “a real hero.” A member of a well-known rugby family from Northland, Sid Going (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Hine) represented the All Blacks in 86 games over the course of ten years in the 1960s and 1970s. When Sir Bryan Williams initially observed As a kid going to work, Williams observed the halfback performing some “amazing things” for Northland and the All Blacks. “He turned into a Sid Going true hero for me, and two or three years later, I found myself playing with someone I genuinely looked up to—I was on the same All Blacks team as him.” For over ten years, they continued to perform together after that. According to Sir Bryan, going was “lethal” on the field and would have excelled at any position. “He was an incredibly talented athlete, capable of running, throwing, tackling, kicking, and even reading the play. He just appeared to be able to make it to the try queue. Long after their playing

Newcastle Falcons manager Steve Diamond responds to reports involving Stuart Hogg

Image
Steve Diamond talks about being taken aback. Rumours about Stuart Hogg as Newcastle looks to fix “bad recruitment” Steve Diamond, the consultant director of rugby at the Newcastle Falcons, has addressed rumours that Stuart Hogg has been discussing a possible comeback to rugby. Before the 2023 Rugby World Cup, the legendary player from Scotland announced his retirement from the game, saying he was “knackered, physically and emotionally.” Nevertheless, it was revealed on Friday that Hogg had conversations with a failing Newcastle squad, who lost all 18 of their games and finished bottom of the Premiership. Given Hogg’s ongoing legal battle for accusations of domestic abuse and stalking, it would be an unexpected and contentious move, but Steve Diamond emphasised that there was “no truth whatsoever” to the reports. That seems to put an end to the rumour, though it must be acknowledged that the 55-year-old has flatly denied any transfers have ever occurred only for them to be made pub

Harry Potter discusses injury timeline on Full Force Podcast

Image
In the most recent Full Force Podcast with Cairo Takarangi, Harry Potter, the utility back for the Western Force, provided an update on his injury status. The off-season Harry Potter recruit talked about his childhood, his brief stint playing Australian Rules football in Melbourne, his championship victories in the NSW Shute Shield and England’s Premiership Rugby, poor puns, abracadraba, and much more. His Super Rugby Pacific season was cut short due to a syndesmosis injury in Round 6. Harry Potter had surgery in April and is expected to recuperate over the course of four months. The rugby season, which ends with Super Rugby and comes before any spring series games, is a bit of a no-man’s land. A little time to get it perfect. Harry Potter has continued to be a constant presence at Force HQ despite the injuries, participating in team meetings and working out regularly in the gym while using a knee scooter and a peg leg to get around, which made his comrades laugh. New Zealand win U20 Rugby Championship after seeing off Australia

Image
After defeating Australia 36–25 in the championship match, New Zealand has won the first-ever U20 Rugby Championship. The Baby Blacks’ victory meant that they had not lost during the whole competition. They were the only team who failed to lose. When King Maxwell was singed in the 53rd minute, New Zealand was leading 19–13. Then, Australia took the lead after scoring two tries. Despite Rico Simpson being sent to the sin bin and receiving another yellow card, New Zealand was able to rally and take a 26–25 lead. But when a player went down, the Baby Blacks discipline held up, and they were the next team to score from a penalty. After that, the team managed to finish the game and score further points to create history. They are the inaugural U20 Rugby Championship winners. This year was the first time the competition was organised. At the young team level, it was adopted because to the shape of the northern hemisphere. Every year, U20 teams from the northern hemisphere play in the U20

All Blacks captain Sam Cane to retire from international rugby

Image
Sam Cane , the captain of New Zealand, said on Monday that he will retire from Test rugby at the end of 2024, capping a 12-year international career that included a World Cup victory. Having played 95 Tests – 27 as captain – the 32-year-old has decided to focus on spending more time with family and sign a long-term contract with Suntory Goliath in Tokyo, New Zealand Rugby stated in a statement. Since South Africa defeated the All Blacks in the Rugby World Cup final last year, the team has not played, and Sam Cane had already taken a sabbatical in Japan. Cane stated that the opportunity to sign a three-year contract with the affluent Tokyo club was too good to refuse. I had to weigh up everything and, in the end, with a young family, it seemed like the best decision to help set up our future, he stated. It was a very hard one because I love the teams that I represent here in New Zealand. Sam Cane has announced his decision to retire from Test cricket at the end of 2024, some 12 years
