Argentina’s Emiliano Boffelli won’t be playing in 2024
In 2024, Emiliano Boffelli will be absent from every test match for Argentina. The fullback/wing is sidelined for the season and could not return to action until March 2025. This implies that in 2024, he won’t play for Los Pumas at all.
The 2023–2024 United Rugby Championship (URC) season ended early for Boffelli with Edinburgh. After recovering, he participated in a preseason game against Gloucester, however he was left off the squad for the 2024–2025 season’s opening round matchup against Leinster. In 2022, he was named Edinburgh’s Player of the Year. Boffelli has participated in URC, Top 14, and Super Rugby.
Boffelli is a consistent starter for Argentina’s first-team squad. Rosarino, 29, has made 59 appearances for Argentina. Argentina’s starting wingers for the Rugby World Cup 2023 were him and Mateo Carreras. The starting fullback was Juan Cruz Mallía.
In 2017, Boffelli made his debut on a test. World Rugby put him up as a nominee for the Breakout Player of the Year title. He achieved this by representing Argentina in eleven test matches that year. One was at fullback and ten were on the wings.
In 2018, he switched to fullback. He opened the scoring in Argentina’s victories over Australia on the Gold Coast and South Africa in Mendoza. He spent the whole 2019 season as a fullback. His impressive Super Rugby season featured a try in the Buenos Aires Semi Final victory against the Brumbies. At the 2019 World Cup, he was Argentina’s starting fullback.
Under Michael Cheika, Boffelli on the wing again and proved his mettle in memorable away wins for his nation. In the 25-18 victory over the All Blacks in Christchurch in 2022, he scored 20 points for Argentina; in the 30-29 victory over England in London, he scored 25 points. His overall accuracy rate for field goals during the games was 15/16, or 93.75%.
Apart from maintaining a starting position for Los Pumas, Boffelli is also Argentina’s preferred goal-kicker. From this vantage point, he is unique; no Pumas fullback or winger is acknowledged as an excellent goal-kicker.
Felipe Contepomi went back to the standard practice of goal-kicking fly halves while he was away. This year, Santiago Carreras made his debuts against Australia in La Plata, New Zealand in Wellington and Auckland, and France in Mendoza and Buenos Aires. In Punta del Este, against Uruguay; in Santa Fe, against Australia; and in Santiago del Estero and Nelspruit, against South Africa, Tomás Albornoz began at fly half. News for The Daily Rugby
In 2024, four players have appeared for Argentina at fullback. In the first test match of the year, Martín Bogado got the start; Santiago Cordero took over for the second test match of the year, which was against France, and he also started against Uruguay. Juan Cruz Mallía began five of the six Rugby Championship games. The last game was initiated by Santiago Carreras.
Mateo Carreras, Santiago Cordero, Bautista Delguy, Rodrigo Isgró, and Matías Moroni are the players that will be playing as wings in these identical test matches. Both Martín Bogado and Ignacio Mendy were not utilised in the Rugby Championship.
Mateo Carreras has led Argentina into every game this year. In both of the games against France, Bautista Delguy started alongside him as the second wing player. Ignacio Mendy began the matchup with Uruguay. In both encounters with New Zealand, Matías Moroni got the start. Against Australia, Santiago Cordero and Bautista Delguy each had one start. In the Rugby Championship’s last match, Rodrigo Isgró started from the starting position, although Delguy also started against South Africa.
We are keeping an eye out for more names for the November Internationals. Felipe Contepomi called up Santiago Pernas for the home game against South Africa. This year, Mateo Soler participated in roster training. He holds the Super Rugby Americas record for most tries scored.
Benjamín Elizalde, a rookie for the Bristol Bears, is a Puma in the making after winning the World Rugby u20 Championship earlier this year. Elizalde and Pernas are both uncapped. They represented Los Pampas in Super Rugby Americas 2024. Gerónimo Prisciantelli has played fullback, fly half and inside center for Zebre in the URC. Soler, Prisciantelli, Elizalde, and Pernas are uncapped.
